The top three American Idol contestants took trips home last weekend, and while they were there, they learned one of the songs they will be singing this week. At the top three, each contestant sings three songs. They choose one, one of the judges chooses one and Clive Davis chooses one.
This year, Simon picked "Wishing On A Star" (by Rose Royce) for Jordin. Paula chose "Roxanne" (by the Police) for Blake, and Randy chose "I Believe In You and Me" (by Whitney Houston) for Melinda. Apparently Jordin's song is super cheesy, with lyrics that sound like a coronation song, and isn't very difficult to sing....which is weird because Simon is usually really good at picking songs that end up being the persons best vocal performance of the year.
Melinda's song is horrible, I can not believe that Randy would choose that. She'll sound great, but it will be so boring, and afterwards they are just going to say that you should never sing Whitney.
I'm not familiar with Blake's song, so I can't really comment on that...Also, Jordin's personal choice is "I Who Have Nothing," which she sang on British Invasion night. I'm happy with that, because I think that is still my favorite performance from her!
Clive always chooses the worst songs...so I'm not expecting much from him. I'm kind of dissapointed that it looks like Jordin will be singing three ballads....I like it when she has fun and does more upbeat-younger stuff. This is a very talented top three, so it will likely just come down to song choices...
Make sure to watch American Idol this week and vote to ensure that your favorite makes it to the Finale!!
